View From The Bunker September 2, 2015

MGA “View From The Bunker”
September 2, 2015

Attention MGA Golfers and All the Ships At Sea:

Welcome to the first league match in September, and the start of a new Shootout Quarter at Grand Haven. Today, we had 39 members playing an Individual Criss-Cross game in some heavy humid weather. But, we all made it through to the clubhouse for lunch, drinks, and camaraderie.

Golf Humor #1:          A couple has played golf every day for 50 years. One day the wife says, "Honey, to celebrate five decades of golf and marriage, let's start off with a clean slate and confess all our past wrongs."
"OK," the husband says. "Do you remember that blond secretary who worked for me 20 years ago? Well, I had an affair with her."
And the wife says, "That's nothing. Before we met, I had a sex change."
And the husband says, "Why you dang cheat! All this time you've been hitting from the red tees!"

As I mentioned, we played an Individual Criss-Cross, 9-hole Best Ball game of the following: Holes 1 or 10, 2 or 11, 3 or 12, 4 or 13, 5 or 14, 6 or 15, 7 or 18, 8 or 17, 9 or 16. We had four flights of players, and awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the flighted rankings:

Golf Humor #2 :  Two guys are playing golf behind two really slow women. Finally, one guy offers to speed things up and walks down the fairway to tell the women to get a move on. But halfway to the women, he turns around and comes back to his buddy.
"I couldn't say anything," he explains. "One was my wife and the other was my mistress."
"No problem, I'll handle it," his pal says. But after going halfway down the fairway toward the women, he, too, stops. He comes back and says to his buddy: "Small world, isn't it?"

Golf Humor #3: A guy gets up at dawn on a Saturday morning and heads for the golf course as usual. But it's cold and raining, so halfway to the club, he gives up and returns home, where he takes off his clothes, climbs back into bed and snuggles up against his wife. "It's freezing out there," he says.
"Yeah," his wife answers sleepily. "Can you believe my stupid husband is playing golf?"

The Wisdom of Steve “Guru” Samuel: How is it that we put a man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

We had some interesting success stories today. Walt McRae is the golfer of the moment scoring a net eagle on #12, a net ace on #5, score an overall low net score of 65 for the game, coming in second on the Closest to the Pin for #5, and if that wasn’t enough he places first in Flight 3 with a criss-cross score of 28, the lowest score for the day among all the golfers in all four flights. Kudos to Walt.

Here are more notables for your information:  Net Eagles: John Douglas Hole #13, Walt McRae #12, Jim McCutcheon #7, Otto Bohmueller #6, John Quackenbush #6,
Regulation Birdie: Tony Sciuto #17, Joe Loria #8 and Net Ace:  Walt McRae # 5 and #8, Mike Tebbano #8, Jack Hinsch #8.

Golf Factoid: As reported this week in Golf Magazine, drinking coffee has a significant effect of improvement for golfers. Not sure what this means for our league, but the report can be found at this link: http://goo.gl/VONpuq.

The MGA Shootout Leaderboard begins anew this week with the following top ten rankings for your information. Note the three-way tie for tenth place.

Once again, congratulations to Jack Hinsch, the Shootout Winner in yesterday’s exciting match for the 3rd quarter shootout champion, and all the golfers that played.

Next week’s game is a 2-man team event of Best Nine, where players select their 2 net best par 3’s, 5 net best par 4’s, and 2 net best par 5’s. The team score is the total of the two individual players. Make sure you sign up before Monday, September 7, 5:00pm to reserve your spot to play for Wednesday, September 9.

Join us next week after lunch when Otto Bohmueller and Lee Figliuolol present a scene from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Until then, see you from the bunker.
